Luther: Trusting God

"Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:3,4

With this truth the psalmist lays aside his anxieties and sets his heart at ease. Put aside your impatience, my child. To curse or entertain evil thoughts is base.

Set your hope on God; wait on His action. Don't give evil for evil, but give good for evil.

If you want to flee to another place, stay yet in the land where you are. Nourish yourself in the faith, do your work and your ministry as before.

Abide in the faith and entertain no doubts. God will not abandon you.

Don't be angry when God gives success or wealth to your enemy. If God wants to bless the godless, that's His business. Stop hating your enemy and his success.

God will give you what your heart wants. What more could you wish?

Seek God's will and be content in it. Then your enemy's success or wealth will not damage you. You will be full of peace and joyfully wait for the promise of God.
