In His Name Conquer

"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." Psalm 20:7

Certainly it takes a greater faith to venture forth in the name of the Lord than to trust in chariots and horses. Soldiers follow the second method in going into battle today; they remember previous victories to strengthen their mettle. Our Christian rulers would do well to remember the name of the Lord, from whom comes deliverance and victory. Proverbs 18:10 asserts that "the name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it and is safe."The psalmist is testifying out of his own experience. Who would suppose that a victory may be gained by the mere remembrance of the name of the Lord? But David had put it to the test.

It is not enough to think upon and call upon the name of the Lord. One must persist in remembering it and think steadfastly upon it until one finally becomes victorious over all dangers which crowd him. Surely it is unthinkable that the name of the Lord should be overcome, since he is eternal and almighty; moreover, it is impossible that anyone should fail who depends upon it.

Martin Luther
