How to Live & Die In Comfort
How many things are necessary for you to know, that you, enjoying this comfort, may live and die happily?
Answer: Three; the first, how great my sins and miseries are; the second, how I may be delivered from all my sins and miseries;
the third, how I shall express my gratitude to God for such deliverance.
My great sins and miseries.
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
Question: What comfort do you find in these words?
For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures,
spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior
and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness,
but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace, we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-7
Questions: 1) What were our lives like before God saved us? 2) Why did God save us? 3) List two things that we gained in this exchange.
How I may be delivered.
This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3
He (Jesus Christ) is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone.
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:11,12
And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead.
Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Acts 10:42,43
How I shall express my gratitude to God.
For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; Ephesians 5:8-11
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9,10
