Yesterday I mentioned the wonder of our adoption by God the Father. He is the one who took me from my mother's womb and claimed me as His own adopted son. He embraced me and will carry me all the days of my life. But who is this God Who loves me?
In the context, in the same Biblical neighborhood of Isaiah's writings as the verses quoted yesterday, we find God speaking of Himself.
"You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me. I, even I, am the LORD, and there is no savior besides Me.
It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, and there was no strange god among you; so you are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "and I am God."
"Even from eternity I am He, and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" Isaiah 43:10-13
The God Who loves me is unique and is in charge of His universe. He is the one and only God; there never was and never will be another. He is the one Who actively rules over all of His creatures. It's comforting to know that the God who holds my hand and says "Do not fear, I will help you." is in charge of all things. "I act and who can reverse it?"
The God Who loves me is the Almighty Creator.
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the One who formed you from the womb, "I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Myself and spreading out the earth all alone,
causing the omens of boasters to fail, making fools out of diviners, causing wise men to draw back and turning their knowledge into foolishness." Isaiah 44:24,25
Or, as the Psalmist said many years before:
"The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. . . . For He spoke and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." Psalm 33:5,6,9
Knowing this I can repeat the Apostles Creed with gusto --- I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. This is the God Who loves me and says "Do not fear, for I am with you."
